Employee Spotlight- Jen Ortiz, Assistant Director of Nurses

Jen Ortiz is the Assistant Director of Nurses (ADON) at The Crossings in League City. She began her career in 2017 with a specialty in wound care. She joined the team at The Crossings in 2018 after graduating from nursing school as a wound care nurse. Later, in 2020 a need for an interim ADON became available with Ortiz stepping into the role. By early 2021, she was formally offered the position. Currently Ortiz is working to complete RN school with an anticipated graduation date of May 2024.

“She is dependable, committed, dedicated and very loyal,” explained Director of Nurses, Natalie Schutz. Jen’s nursing skills are impressive, but she might be most well known for her creative contributions to resident life at The Crossings. For example, one day during the height of the pandemic, she wore a blow-up dinosaur costume, traveling around the building, prompting laughter from fellow employees and residents alike.

She is also largely responsible for the lovely flowers found in the resident gardens in skilled nursing. Ortiz engaged residents by taking them to a local nursery to select the flowers they most adored and worked alongside other team members to plant them for all to enjoy.
