Most birthdays come with balloons. A few tied to a chair, a bouquet floating near the cake, maybe giant numbers proudly announcing the milestone year. But when The Crossings resident Linnie Hyde turned 100, her family decided ordinary birthday balloons simply wouldn’t do.

Instead, they arranged for something far more unforgettable—a real hot air balloon to touch down in the community courtyard. As evening settled in, residents gathered outside to an unexpected sight: a colorful balloon drifting gently into view before descending into the courtyard.

Conversations paused, phones came out, and for a few moments, all eyes were fixed on the sky. While Linnie stayed firmly on the ground, she had the best seat in the house. Surrounded by family, friends, and neighbors, she watched the balloon up close as it transformed an ordinary evening into something extraordinary.
